This seems to work well. Lately, since the hospital visit, we've been cutting out the supplementary vitamin E, since it reacts with so many medications. As of Mom's PCP visit on 6/17/04 we've stopped the 81 mg coated aspirin, until her PCP can observe whether her anemia is coming under control.
Today, although she looked good and seemed fairly energetic, for her, and although, seeing as how she refused to begin her day until about 1145, I was planning on getting 3 iron tablets in, one during a mid-day lunch about 1630 then one during a late, light dinner at around 2130. Mom napped for an hour and a half through the planned lunch, so that didn't pan out. When she arose, she wanted "something substantial", so I changed food courses. About an hour after dinner she wanted "something sweet", so I gave her one and a half home made Bing Cherry muffins and 500 mg metformin.
Around 2100 she decided she'd like to go to bed. I offered to rub her legs down (takes about 20 minutes) while she took a final 18 mg Iron Protein Succinylate and 2.5 mg lisinopril, which I confirmed she could use by her evening blood pressure reading.
Tonight, her left foot was just a tiny bit swollen, but not enough to rate a furosemide, especially considering how much trouble I had hydrating her, today. She's looking nice and ruddy. I am hoping the extra iron is giving her blood something upon which to build. She's been getting what seems like an awful lot of sleep, lately, but, as her PCP continues to remind me, when she's anemic, and she surely is still anemic, if only borderline, "...she's tired. Leave her alone." So, I try to do just that.
    I try.
