Today's Stats:

Breakfast
Blood Glucose:
    Time:  1006
    Reading:  96
Blood Pressure:
    Time:  1048
    BP:  150/74
    Pulse:  57

Breakfast:  1105  & Meds
What she ate:  1 hard over egg, heavily peppered
1 4 oz slice honey cured ham steak
1 slice toasted oat bran bread with 1 tbl Fleischmann's margarine
1/4 tsp cinnamon on bread
6 oz orange juice diluted w/8 oz water
Med/Dose Administration Explanation
Niferex-150 [150 mg elemental iron] 1 hour before breakfast to pull her out of what I hope is her temporarily severely anemic state
vitamin C/500 mg 1/2 1000 mg tab with Niferex-150 helps the body metabolize iron
100% Aloe Vera gel/1 oz just before meal helps increase the cells' sensitivity to insulin
Protonix/40 mg 1 pill at least 1/2 hour pre-meal standard pre-breakfast med
glipizide ER/10 mg 1 pill with meal standard breakfast and dinner med to increase cells' sensitivity to insulin
aspirin/81 mg 1 tab with breakfast standard breakfast med - given for anti-coagulant properties
lisinopril/1.25 mg 1/4 of 5 mg tab with meal given for kidney protection when her blood pressure can handle it
Daily Senior Multivitamin with breakfast standard breakfast supplement
folic acid/400 mcg with breakfast standard breakfast supplement
garlic/1250 mg with meal standard breakfast supplement; a natural antibiotic and anti-coagulant
vitamin E/400 IU with meal given for anti-coagulant properties; among other reasons; appears to be of benefit to type 2 diabetics, as well, in its role as a smooth muscled organ protectant, particularly the pancreas, which produces insulin

Yeah, I was surprised at her blood pressure, too, but this tends to happen when she has a UTI and is on antibiotics, so, of course, I gave her lisinopril. She had a good appetite, and was bright-eyed and bushy tailed, although, when I began to discover that I had to go out to replenish some supplies I hadn't been monitoring, she didn't want to go. As it turns out, she did go, though, when I realized that I was going to have to go to three stores and be gone longer than I thought.
In a way, I'm glad her blood pressure goes up when she has a UTI and is on antibiotics. Considering the kidney protection that the lisinopril affords, it's a good thing to be able to give her lisinopril when she has her UTI.

Lunch
Blood Glucose:
    Time:  1530
    Reading:  133
Blood Pressure:
    Time:  1537
    BP:  104/53
    Pulse:  69

Lunch:  1545  & Meds
What she ate:  approx 6 oz Marie Callendar's Beef Pot Roast Soup with 1.5 chopped green onions and added beef jerky
approx. 6 oz 4% milk fat small curd cottage cheese, heavily peppered
11.5 oz V-8 juice with 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Med/Dose Administration Explanation
levaquin/250 mg 1 tab just before meal for her UTI

That's right, no iron at lunch, because of the levaquin. Her blood glucose shows the remnants of the samples she consumed at Costco. Not bad, considering how much and what she sampled. At one point, while I was getting eggs, she parked herself at the "Pizza Bagel Bites" kiosk and had downed probably four half "Bites" (I asked the tender) before I hunted her up and dragged her away. She also had animal cookies, mesquite broiled chicken, bits of salad with a balsamic vinegar dressing and a couple of chunks of "energy bars", which, typically, are loaded with refined sugar, the fastest energy food available. Luckily, she didn't notice the ice cream sampling kiosk. All in all, though, her body worked on all these things very well. She ate a good lunch, too, then was too tired for words, looked at me as if through a veil and after I made her finish her V-8 juice she headed into her room for a nap.

Dinner
Blood Glucose:
    Time:  2039
    Reading:  98
Blood Pressure:
    Time:  2050
    BP:  137/61
    Pulse:  60

Dinner:  2100  & Meds
What she ate:  approx 1/6 of a Costco Chicken Pot Pie
Med/Dose Administration Explanation
100% Aloe Vera gel/1 oz just before meal helps increase the cells' sensitivity to insulin
36 mg Iron Protein Succinylate 2 18 mg tabs with meal to pull her out of what I hope is her temporarily severely anemic state
vitamin C/500 mg 1/2 1000 mg tab with iron supplement helps the body metabolize iron
glipizide ER/10 mg 1 pill with meal standard breakfast and dinner med to increase cells' sensitivity to insulin
lisinopril/1.25 mg 1/4 of 5 mg tab with meal given for kidney protection when her blood pressure can handle it
vitamin E/400 IU with meal given for anti-coagulant properties
garlic/1250 mg with meal given for anti-coagulant properties
calcium-vitamin D/500-200 mg with meal believed to be an osteoporosis preventative

She slept for a good three and a half hours and was ravenous when she awoke. I'd been baking the chicken pot pie and she could smell it (amazing how her senses are reviving since she quit smoking) laying in bed as she awoke. Although her diastolic was a touch low, I gave her lisinopril anyway. She ate with unusual zest and speed, finishing her dinner about the same time as me, and, these days (and for about a year now), I've developed the habit of eating pretty fast because there is always something else I need to do.
This time, the UTI and the antibiotics don't seem to be affecting either her appetite or her ability to hold down food, which leads me to believe that she is on the right dose of the right medicine. As well, I doubt that she's very anemic, if at all.
After dinner she felt as though she'd "like a little something sweet", so I gave her three sugar free (sweetened with sucralose) York Peppermint Patties with some coffee. "The perfect dessert," she declared, "just the right flavor, just the right amount." She's a sucker for these candies. I'll have to check and see if Costco sells them, as, otherwise, they are terribly expensive and come in bags of only 8 patties.
I forgot her cranberry juice, today, which I probably shouldn't have done, but her UTI seems to be clearing up, anyway. It's even more astounding because I've been drinking cranberry juice in water all day long. Oh well. Better luck tomorrow.
