Review of 8/13/06 - 8/25/06

You'll notice that I haven't been particularly meticulous about taking stats over the period mentioned above. Things have been going well. Over the past two weeks the first has been active for Mom, the second has been passive. Mom hasn't been particularly interested, either, in having her stats taken, so I've cut back. Those that have been taken, though, were, up to the last few days, showing no problems, no changes. Throughout this period, except for the last three days, no extra meds have been administered, none have been subtracted.
Nothing has been particularly different regarding her arisings, either. A couple of really late days, but she's been indulging in really late nights, too; typically not going to bed before 0130 in the morning and her light not going off until 0200.
Over the second week, her activity level hit a low and her sleep level went up to where she was averaging about 15 hours (which included at least one day of a full sixteen hours of sleep, including her daily nap). Up until yesterday, as well, it's been raining more than usual throughout the monsoon. On Wednesday we had a Seattle day, in which it rained or drizzled all day long. I was in heaven. Mom was in hell, and spent a lot of that day in hell in bed. That was the day I made the ham and bean soup and the blueberry cornbread, in order to bring a positive, comforting note to the day.
I am noticing, over the last few days, that her BG has gone wild. I discussed this over at the main journal a bit. I have no idea why this is happening. I expected it the day after the bean soup...but I didn't expect a blood sugar reading of 184 in the morning, nor a morning reading of 181 the following morning.
Needless to say, I'm a little freaked. I'll keep a close watch on all her stats over the next few days. I'm thinking it might be connected to the three successive doses of furosemide over the last three days and the dehydration, gentle as it's been. I am, however, cutting way, way back on her refined carbohydrates and adding curry powder to her V-8 juice, which I'm seeing to it that she gets every day until I determine whether this is just a blip or is going to continue. I'm also seeing to it that she gets at least two quarts of liquids a day. We'll see how it goes.
I can't say that anything unusual is happening with her mood. Even this last week of lethargy is not unusual. So, I'll wait and see. I'm very glad she's got a "routine" appointment on 9/12/06. I'm hoping this will subside by then, but, well, we'll see. If not, I'm prepared for the possibility that her type 2 treatment will be changing.
