This morning when I awoke Mom, there was dried blood all over her pillow case, some on her sheet, some had been smeared on her wall (she often holds up the wall when she's sleeping) and a great deal around her nose. Almost immediately I realized what had happened. Yesterday, in the afternoon and late in the evening, I had given her adult buffered aspirin to help alleviate the stiffness and muscle soreness from all the standing/sitting and walkering she'd done during our flu shot shuffle. We've also been talking about how we need to cut her fingernails because they were getting so long, but she's actually refused this because she likes the look of her nails when their long, over the tips of her fingers. I know that she often awakens during the night and blows her nose, then digs around in their. When her nails are long, this tends to break blood vessels. The combination of her nails and the aspirin did a number on her last night and she managed to scratch the hell out of her inner nose. With all that aspirin under her belt, her blood was thin enough so she bled a noticeable amount. She was in no discomfort, her nose was not particularly sensitive this morning, and she was none the weaker for the loss, which looked pretty spectacular but ultimately amounted to quite a bit less than is taken when her blood is drawn for a CBC. At any rate, I cut her fingernails right then and there and decided, no aspirin today, not even her usual 81 mg dose at breakfast.
She was lagging from her shots, today. I recognized the symptoms from six years ago when she last had both the flu and pneumonia shots at the same time. She complained of thigh and calf muscle soreness, as well. So, we I saw to it that we had an easy day of it.
I awoke her at 1300, giving her an extra hour of night sleep.
    Breakfast: Completely normal.
She napped from 1630 - 1930 and arose on her her own. The worst of her muscle soreness was just coming on, but subsided throughout the evening as she arose to do minor things like go to the bathroom and throw tissues away.
She refused lunch; just wanted coffee.
Thus, I purposely saw to it that we ate dinner by 2100: Home made corned beef hash with sauteed onions and garlic added, seasoned with a mixture of four peppercorn pepper and Herbes de Provence. [For my own reference: 2 lb corned beef, freshly simmerered; 1 very large potato; 1 medium yellow onion; 2 cloves garlic]
Her Bowel Movement occurred at 1515; Very good volume; good consistency; very easy elimination; slightly challenging clean-up.
She retired at 2350. Light went out at 0030, 9/26/06.
