Lunch:  1700  & Meds
What she ate:  1/2 3 oz bag "lite" microwave popcorn
8 unpitted variety olives in a vinegar, olive oil, dill brine
Med/Dose Administration Explanation
36 mg Iron Protein Succinylate 2 18 mg tabs with meal to pull her out of what I hope is her temporarily severely anemic state
vitamin C/500 mg 1 tab with iron supplement helps the body metabolize iron
1/2 cup pure cranberry juice w/12 oz water with or after meal standard twice a day supplement for kidney protection and enhancement of waste management

No stats today, again, light lunch, essentially to administer iron and quell her appetite until it was safe (from a mineral point of view) to administer her antibiotics.
You'll notice she drank cranberry juice instead of V-8 juice with no cinnamon. I can't remember why I did this, but I had a reason at the time. She got plenty of fiber and vitamins, today, though, and, sometimes, she just lets her V-8 juice sits...oh, yes, now I remember, she hadn't consumed much fluid today and I wanted to make sure that she drank something that would go down fast. Cranberry juice usually does. I wasn't worried about the lack of cinnamon. I figured, her blood sugar is enjoying a heyday, anyway; the lack of a little cinnamon isn't going to make or break it, today. I'm sure it didn't.

Dinner:  2035  & Meds
What she ate:  approx 6 oz lean pork ribs roasted in a Hoisin sauce concoction
1 ear sweet corn with loads of butter, I'm sure
Med/Dose Administration Explanation
100% Aloe Vera gel/1 oz just before meal helps increase the cells' sensitivity to insulin when used with glipizide
glipizide ER/10 mg 1 pill with meal standard breakfast and dinner med to increase cells' sensitivity to insulin
lisinopril/2.5 mg 1/2 of 5 mg tab with meal given for kidney protection when her blood pressure can handle it
vitamin E/400 IU with meal given for anti-coagulant properties
garlic/1250 mg with meal given for anti-coagulant properties
500 mg acetaminophen 1 500 mg tablet with meal to keep her low grade fever under control
291.66 mg Augmentin 1/3 875 mg tablet with meal to treat her UTI

I actually thought to take her temperature just before dinner, tonight, so was able to give her the acetaminophen with her meal, which is best.
Since she's down one dose of iron because she's not staying up late enough for me to administer a third dose, I'm making sure she gets plenty of meat in the evening, which seems to be working well. Her appetite continues to be very good. No nausea today, so no need for the metaclopramide. I'm not worried about her blood sugar. That will work itself out later, when she's off the antibiotic.
Her Bowel Movement occurred at 2200, just as she was getting ready for bed. Surprised her, although it was not diarrhea. Very easy elimination; fair volume, I expect her to go again within the next 24 hours; good consistency.

For those of you unfamiliar with an arterial thermometer, a temperature of 99.1 is well within normal range; could probably translate directly to 98.6. Although I normally do not take her blood pressure in the morning because it is bound to be the highest of the day, since she is struggling to awaken and "get around", this is exactly why I took it. Although low for the records I've been keeping during the last several months, its not so low that I'm worried. In fact, I was pleased to see that it was what it was.
Although she's shown no real sign of her appetite lagging, I wanted to be sure and tempt it, which is why I decided on serving muffins for breakfast, even though I knew it would temporarily blow her blood sugar out of the park; so, I figured, I wouldn't take her blood sugar at lunch, since it wouldn't matter. Just at dinner.

Non-stat Lunchette
Lunch:  1715  & Meds
What she ate:  6 unpitted variety olives in a vinegar, olive oil, dill brine and approx 1/4 cup of MCS's home made bread and butter pickles
11.5 oz V-8 juice with 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Med/Dose Administration Explanation
36 mg Iron Protein Succinylate 2 18 mg tabs with meal to pull her out of what I hope is her temporarily severely anemic state
vitamin C/500 mg 1 tab with iron supplement helps the body metabolize iron

Mom stayed up quite awhile today, after breakfast. Didn't lay down for a nap until almost 1600 and only slept for about an hour, which is a very good sign. I wanted to get some iron in her a couple of hours before dinner, so I fed her a lunchette, gave her iron, and promised that we'd have a dinner of her choice a couple of hours later.
Decided not to take stats as per what I discussed in her Breakfast Stats post.

291.66 mg Augmentin 1/3 of an 875 mg tablet with meal temporary for UTI treatment
500 mg acetaminophen 1 tablet before bed with 8 oz water temporary for UTI treatment

She chose dinner tonight; fast food, Carl's Junior, "the hamburgers with the green stuff". She ate hearty, had no trouble with her medication.
Just before she retired, I took her temperature. It was again, tonight, just over the border of the upper limit of normal for an arterial temperature. I decided to give her 1 extra strength acetaminophen tablet as a preventative, but no more, to keep her stomach from churning everything up.

folic acid/400 mcg with breakfast standard breakfast supplement
garlic/1250 mg with meal standard breakfast supplement; a natural antibiotic and anti-coagulant
metaclopramide/5 mg 1/2 hour before meal to prevent nausea as necessary
1/2 cup pure cranberry juice w/12 oz water with or after meal standard twice a day supplement for kidney protection and enhancement of waste management

You'll noticed that breakfast occurred quite an unusual while after her blood sugar reading this morning. And that I administered a 5 mg tab of metaclopramide 1/2 hour before breakfast. For an explanation of what happened this morning and why I medicated her as I did, see today's post at The Mom & Me Journals dot Net. The link will take you right to it.
I decided to take her blood pressure this morning to see if anything else strange was showing up. It's fine, right in her normal range. So, I think her nausea may have just been a reaction to the antibiotic. I had planned to cut back to one 291.66 dose a day today, anyway, so that's what I'll do. With dinner. Just as a precaution I may administer metaclopramide just before she eats dinner.

What she ate:  approx 1.5 cups home made chicken noodle soup with home made broth and lots of vegetables mixed with 1/4 tsp cinnamon
Med/Dose Administration Explanation
36 mg Iron Protein Succinylate 2 18 mg tabs with meal to pull her out of what I hope is her temporarily severely anemic state

1000 mg acetaminophen 2 tablets with meal for fever
1/2 cup pure cranberry juice w/12 oz water with or after meal standard twice a day supplement for kidney protection and enhancement of waste management

She felt a little warm when she awoke from her nap so I decided to take her temperature. We use an arterial thermometer, which always registers a little high, so 100.7 isn't as high as it sounds, but high enough for some relief.
Her blood sugar was higher than usual, but this is typical when she's on some antibiotics, so I'm not worried about it.

Med/Dose Administration Explanation
5 mg metaclopramide 1 tablet 1/2 hour before meal prevents nausea; I wanted to make sure that she had this in her system when she took her antibiotic, tonight
100% Aloe Vera gel/1 oz just before meal helps increase the cells' sensitivity to insulin when used with glipizide
glipizide ER/10 mg 1 pill with meal standard breakfast and dinner med to increase cells' sensitivity to insulin
lisinopril/1.25 mg 1/4 of 5 mg tab with meal given for kidney protection when her blood pressure can handle it
augmentin/291.66 mg 1/3 of 875 mg tab with meal for her urinary tract infection
vitamin E/400 IU with meal given for anti-coagulant properties
garlic/1250 mg with meal given for anti-coagulant properties
1000 mg acetaminophen 2 tablets after meal for fever

No iron. If she stays up past 2130 I'll give her iron and vitamin C then. Although her blood pressure is well within normal range for her, I'm a little concerned because it's dropped to normal so quickly. I'm hoping that it will remain in her normal range tomorrow. It it starts to drop below that, along with everything else her body is experiencing, she may also be experiencing anemia. I hope not.
I dropped her lisinopril down to 1/4 of a pill, although I wanted to make sure she continued to receive it.

291.66 mg augmentin 1/3 875 tab augmentin with food to address her UTI
another 1/3 cup pure cranberry juice w/8 oz water 2.5 hours after last dose of iron standard twice a day supplement for kidney protection and enhancement of waste management

You'll notice an absence of Lunch Stats today. She slept long enough so that there seemed no reason to try to get three meals in, especially considering what her needs were because of the UTI.
Since it's best to give her antibiotics 2 hours before or after iron and other mineral supplements, at 2130 I gave her another dose of augmentin with a piece of oat bran toast w/1.5 Tbl butter and 1/4 tsp cinnamon.
The Bowel Movement occurred at about 1800, when she awoke from her nap. She reported that it was easy; good consistency, flushed well, good volume for what are becoming daily movements. I'm very pleased.

There's that breakfast muffin, sitting up and saying, "Hello". No, I didn't give her insulin. I made a bet with myself that, by dinner, her blood sugar would be close to normal. I won. For the first time in a couple of days, it was in the normal range.
I did, by the way, forget to give her the dill pickles she requested, but she seemed to be okay with that.

How about that, blood sugar back to normal by dinner?!? I want to note that she ate only about two thirds of her dinner. I'm not worried about it, but in case it's more than simply a blip, I want to remember. Otherwise, she seems fine.

Oops! I just remembered. Yesterday we had ham. Today we had bacon.
Yes, she had a Bowel Movement today, at about 1610. Cleaned her out, I think, for a couple of days. Easy execution, good volume, good consistency. She decided to go in for a nap afterwards, and I couldn't see any reason not to let her.
You'll notice she did not have her cranberry juice after breakfast. Since I'm cutting back on her fluids for the day, I decided to hold that off until dinner (although, often, she'll have a glass after breakfast and a glass at dinner). I'm giving her half her normal fluid dosage, today, and all the decaf instant coffee she asks for. If she's low on sodium, this should do the trick.

Her blood pressure is absolutely back to normal and I think it's because she had only about 2/3's the amount of fluid she usually has during the day. It definitely looks as though I've been overhydrating her, again, although I've been very careful not to. Could be her love of decaf instant coffee that's doing her in. Maybe, too, when she's not moving around much, her fluid requirements are somewhat less than 2200 ml. I figure, on a normal day, prior to today, she's probably been getting about 2 l to 2200 ml per day, including her coffee; not, however, including any liquid in her food. Since she has an emotional need for that cup of coffee available to her right hand, I think I'll cut back on her regular fluids, day by day, until I figure out the best range for her. The water bulge on her arm hasn't disappeared but it's on it's way. Good lesson for me.

Again, nothing unusual about breakfast. She did, however, have a Bowel Movement while we were bathing her, at 1300. Easily executed, fair volume, good consistency. I'm expecting her to unload more later, though.

She was the only hungry one...I think I ate a croissant and had tea. Everything seems to be fine except I am getting concerned about the amount of sugar in those Vitamin C chewables. I'm definitely getting the others the next time I go to Costco. Stupid mistake, but, I can use the chewables, she can use the others.
