No Stat Day:

When Mom awoke (around 1300), after she'd settled herself in the bathroom for bathing, I announced, as usual, that I was going to get "the devices of torture", the glucometer and the BP cuff.
"Do we have to do those today?" she asked.
Well, no. Not really. No reason to worry and wonder what her stats are. She's doing fine...sluggish with the heat and humidity, but fine.
Thus, we had a stat-free day.
Breakfast substituted sausage for bacon. I also tried out a new kind of bread...a dark bread embedded with lots of seeds and whole grains. She's been complaining about the bread we've been eating (I rarely bake bread in the summer and never bake it during weather such as this); Alpine Valley's Honey Wheat, which is so dense that it's sticky, and she doesn't like this. She liked the new bread. I think she may have thought it was a sweet quick bread, as I also started using Penzey's Extra Fancy Vietnamese Cassia Cinnamon which is so strong and sweet it resembles ground Red Hots.
    Lunch was normal.
Around dinner time I announced that it was too hot to cook...did she have any ideas about what she'd like in the way of a cold dinner?
"How about ice cream?" she said. Why not, I decided. In order to accomplish this, though, I had to put dinner off until 2230 (which was fine...she had a long nap and a late lunch) in order to be able to administer her second glipizide without lowering her BG too much.
She retired at 0045, 7/15/06. Her light went off at 0115.     EXTRA NOTE: I noticed on the following morning (7/15/06) that last night I forgot to administer her third iron pill and her second dose of lisinopril.

Mom was actually up by 1300 today. We spent a fair amount of time in her room, though, she sitting up on the edge of her bed, me on the floor, playing with the cats, talking and generally accomodating ourselves to the heat and mugginess of the day.
Breakfast and lunch were normal, no changes. For dinner I served her a Marie Callender's Beef Pot Pie. She requested pot pies early in the day so I made a trip to the store during her nap to pick it up. My intention had been to serve a Cobb Salad (a modified version of which I prepared for myself) but Mom seemed to be in the mood for comfort food.
Her Bowel Movement occurred at 1625: Excellent volume; a little smeary in consistency; very easy elimination; fairly easy clean-up.
She retired at 0030, 7/14/06. Her light went out at 0100.

BM BE Full Stat Day:

A.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  1105
    Reading:  144
A.M. Blood Pressure:
    Time:  1056
    BP:  162/87
    Pulse:  68

P.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  2034
    Reading:  238
P.M. Blood Pressure:
    Time:  2029
    BP:  133/67
    Pulse:  61

Breakfast was normal; no substitutions, although she asked for two pieces of toast, got them, then asked if we had "some kind of jelly" around. I offered lemon curd. She was thrilled. she received two adult buffered aspirin for a headache and general stiffness. She never gets headaches, so I considered possible causes. Her hearty diving into a hearty breakfast and gulped her orange juice, I realized she was both hungry and thirsty, then remembered that we had a very light food day, yesterday, mainly because Mom had a heavy sleep day.
Lunch was somewhat more lavish: Baked tortilla chips and artichoke/jalapeno/cream cheese dip; fresh fruit from the left over fruit tray; V-8 juice.
I guess the extra toast, the lemon curd, the fruit and the tortilla chips combined to blow her blood sugar through the roof.
Her Bowel Movement occurred at 1320: Excellent volume; somewhat loose consistency; very easy elimination; somewhat challenging clean-up.
She retired at 2206. Her light hasn't yet gone off. I'll record when it does.
Her light went out at 2245, very early for her. However, she was back up at 2330, in the bathroom. She also, at this time, had a mini Bowel Expulsion: Volume, minor; consistency, sticky; elimination, very easy; clean-up, slightly challenging. I figure it was the last of her welcome earlier BM. At this point I should note that I have not been consistently giving her extra Benefiber at night. In fact, I don't think I've given it to her for about a week. Her diet over the last several weeks has been extremely fiber healthy, though.
